Mr. Turner

Dear A.O.E.C. Families,

My name is Kevin Turner and I am excited to introduce myself as the Principal of Waukegan Public Schools. Alternative/Optional Education Center. I am honored to be the leader of the A.O.E.C. family given its reputation of serving students of various backgrounds, needs, and educational talents. I believe with my educational and personal experience, I can assist in the progression of student achievement demonstrated here at A.O.E.C. I have over 11 years of experience in education, teaching in the field of Special Education from Grades 3rd-8th in North Chicago, Illinois. During this time, I have developed a passion to educate students who have exemplified a thirst for education regardless of personal circumstances. This allowed me to pursue numerous opportunities to service students in education while also managing non-profit programs throughout Lake County. These programs consist of working within the Youth Conservation Corps G.E.D. program and the management of a Certified Nursing Assistant program, whose goal is to provide career training for youth throughout the Lake County. Throughout this time, I was able to earn my M.Ed in Educational Leadership at the American College of Education. This then led me to Waukegan Public Schools where I served as an Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson Middle School for four years before coming to A.O.E.C.

My goal at A.O.E.C. is to expand the student and family services that is currently offered through our various programs. This includes the expansion of the Middle School Alternative program and the increase of student enrollment in our high school program. We will also look to build upon our community partnerships to provide support services for our student population in various areas. This will include community programs such as health and wellness, financial literacy, family counseling, child parenting, violence prevention, and drug abuse. My objective is to create a school environment that promotes student and family engagement so that all stakeholders can take ownership in student achievement. I know with the excellent staff here at A.O.E.C., we will continue to nurture and educate our future leaders.

Once again, I am thankful to have the opportunity to be a part of the wonderful community here at A.O.E.C. I truly believe that there is great work to be done for our Waukegan students. I look forward meeting each and every one of you throughout the course of the school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 224.303. 2861. Let's have a wonderful 2018-2019 school year. GO BULLDOGS!!!

Warm Regards,
Mr. Kevin Turner

Assistant Principal, Mr. Cicirale

Mr. Cicirale

Greetings Waukegan School Community,

I am excited to be a new member of the A.O.E.C. family in my role as Assistant Principal! Numerous positive initiatives have been implemented at A.O.E.C. and I look forward to championing these as we continue to implement additional facets to best serve our students and families.

My personal and professional experiences provide me with the most essential component for effective education of students -- relationship building and collaboration for success. In my previous roles as a Career and Technical Education Teacher/Coordinator, Director of Alternative Education, and Assistant Principal, both in the south suburbs and Chicago, my approach to serving students is holistic in nature. Students must know that all school personnel care about them as a person, thereby paving the road for academic success.

Serving diverse settings in a healthy space of mutual respect and rapport are both my natural personal and professional dispositions. We must work harmoniously as a team to provide the foundation and supports for the success of our children both inside the school walls and for the abounding world surrounding world.

My promise to the A.O.E.C. community is that I will serve our school community passionately, proudly, and effectively. Please contact me with any concerns or feedback you may have. I'm grateful to be working with the Waukegan Public School Community!

Sincerely yours,
Mr. Michael Cicirale
